Stockholm: The Swedish Government has announced that migration and integration will remain key priorities, citing major societal strains caused by extensive immigration in recent years.
According to the government, integration challenges are now affecting most policy areas, prompting a comprehensive overhaul of migration and integration policies to create better conditions for successful integration.
Sweden reaffirmed that it offers strong opportunities for everyone to succeed, stressing that what matters is not a person’s origin but their willingness to become part of Swedish communities and contribute towards shared goals.
The government highlighted that Swedish society is bound together by the Swedish language, self-sufficiency, and the rights and duties associated with citizenship, along with respect for Swedish rules, norms, and values.
It further underlined that those coming to Sweden must respect democratic values and live honourably. The government stated that expectations and requirements for becoming part of Swedish society must be made clearer and stricter to preserve the country’s open and free society.
The Swedish Government also warned that individuals who do not wish to integrate should not come to Sweden, and that committing an offence could result in the loss of the right to live in the country. (Government of Sweden)
