Terrorism Will Not End Unless Our Neighbours Are Taken on Board: Farooq Abdullah

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)National Conference patron and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday emphasized the need for a regional approach to tackling terrorism, stating that “terrorism will not end unless our neighbours are taken on board.”

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Abdullah underlined the importance of dialogue and cooperation with neighbouring countries, particularly Pakistan, to ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir. “We can keep fighting, but unless there is sincere effort to engage with our neighbours and address the root causes, the bloodshed will not stop,” he said.

The veteran leader’s remarks come amid heightened security concerns in the Union Territory ahead of Independence Day and ongoing counter-terror operations in South Kashmir and border districts.

Dr. Abdullah has consistently advocated for a political resolution to the Kashmir issue, urging both India and Pakistan to re-engage in dialogue. “War is not the solution. It only brings destruction. Dialogue is the only way forward,” he reiterated.

His comments sparked mixed reactions across the political spectrum, with some viewing it as a call for diplomacy, while others criticized it as being overly conciliatory(DD)
