Srinagar, (DD)As Kashmir continues to reel under a sweltering heatwave, Traffic Police Srinagar has stepped in with a heartfelt initiative titled ‘Thandi Saans’ (Cool Breath), offering welcome relief to commuters and traffic personnel alike.
Led by SSP Traffic Srinagar, the drive involves distribution of cold water and refreshing fruit juices at key junctions across the city—aimed at helping people stay hydrated while navigating the heat.
“In such extreme conditions, our traffic personnel stand for hours to ensure smooth vehicular flow. ‘Thandi Saans’ is a small but meaningful gesture to support them and the public,” said a traffic department official.
The hydration points were set up at high-traffic locations including Jehangir Chowk, Dalgate, Lal Chowk, and Pantha Chowk, where traffic cops personally handed out cold drinks to motorists, two-wheeler riders, and even pedestrians.
Commuters, particularly workers, drivers, and delivery personnel, responded warmly to the move.
“Getting a chilled juice in the middle of traffic was completely unexpected and much needed. It shows the human face of our traffic police,” said Bilal Ahmad, a motorist from Bemina.
With daytime temperatures in Srinagar hovering above 34°C, the initiative has come as a breath of fresh air—both literally and figuratively—for those braving the sun on the city’s roads.
SSP Traffic has indicated that the drive will continue in the coming days if temperatures remain high. Citizens are also being advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours and keep themselves well-hydrated.
The initiative has drawn widespread praise as an example of compassionate policing, demonstrating how simple acts of care can uplift public morale during testing weather conditions (DD)
