UDHAMPUR:DD, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh presided over an important security review meeting at the Mini Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Udhampur today.
The meeting was held in the presence of major officials, such as Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai (IAS), DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Sarah Rizvi, SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, and officials from the Army, Police, and District Administration.
In the wake of recent security issues in the area, an additional two-hour long meeting with representatives of the public and civil society members was also organized. The event started with a two-minute silence to pay respect to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Dr. Jitendra Singh informed that the tragic Pahalgam incident has been taken seriously by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is under his direct observation.
“All appropriate steps will be taken by the government to tackle security issues,” he guaranteed.
He pointed out that in Udhampur and Kathua districts, suspicious activities have been reported in the last few months, such as the martyrdom of a security personnel.
The Minister underlined the necessity of public cooperation in maintaining security, appreciating the backing of civil society, trade associations, and local representatives.
He further stated that prospective infrastructure projects regarding roads, tunnels, and transport would be accelerated, as they were strategically important.
In view of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, he assured increased vigilance and preparedness. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, we are sure that all decisions will be made in the interest of national security and public welfare,” he stated.
The session also touched on undisclosed security measures that, though not disclosed, were being referred to as decisive steps to address evolving threats. The Defence and Home Ministries are coordinating closely, utilizing intelligence inputs to provide a strong response to security issues, he further stated.DD
