Udhampur:- In a solemn ceremony that underscored the invaluable contribution of canine soldiers in India’s security forces, the Indian Army paid tribute to their fallen four-legged warrior, Phantom, who made the ultimate sacrifice during a counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir. The brave canine soldier, just four years old , lost his life on Monday when terrorists opened fire during an intense encounter in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region.

A poignant wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the AD Regiment Brigade, Dhar Road Udhampur on Wednesday, where Commander AD Brigade Rohit Das led the military honors. The ceremony witnessed a significant gathering of Army Officers and Jawans, who stood in respectful silence to honor their fallen comrade. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as military personnel bid farewell to Phantom, whose unwavering dedication and sacrifice exemplified the highest traditions of the Indian Army.

The incident occurred during a critical anti-terrorist operation on October 28, 2024, where Phantom, alongside his human counterparts, was engaged in tracking and neutralizing terrorist threats. His ultimate sacrifice highlights the crucial role that military dogs play in maintaining national security, often putting themselves in harm’s way to protect their human handlers and accomplish mission objectives. Phantom’s death serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by all members of the security forces, regardless of species, in their relentless pursuit to safeguard the nation’s borders and maintain peace in the region.
