Srinagar Sizzles at 35.5°C — Hottest June Day Since 2005

Relief Likely as Rain, Thunder Showers Expected from Saturday

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): For the second consecutive day, Srinagar has recorded an exceptional rise in temperature, with the mercury touching 35.5°C on Friday — making it the hottest June day in the city since 2005.

The summer capital had recorded 35.2°C on Thursday, already breaking a two-decade-old mark. Friday’s temperature pushed the seasonal high even further, intensifying the ongoing heatwave sweeping across the Kashmir Valley for the fourth straight day.

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng said, “This is the highest temperature recorded in Srinagar in the month of June since June 25, 2005, when it hit 36.5°C. Prior to that, such temperatures were last seen in the late 1980s.”

However, there may be respite on the horizon. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thunder showers across the Valley starting Saturday, which could bring down the soaring temperatures and provide relief to residents(DD)
